We grade movies on the academic scale, from A+ (breathtakingly excellent) all the way down to F (agonizingly bad). Depending on the critic, different standards may apply to different types of films. For instance, low-budget B-movies aren't typically held up against Hollywood standards, just like The Evil Dead probably wouldn't be judged in the light of Citizen Kane. Rather than just glancing at the grades we give movies, however, it's always a good idea to read our reviews if you want to hear our thoughts about a film. The grades alone mean nothing. Just remember that cinema, like all art, affects each of us differently, and all criticism is subjective.
